When we cling too tightly to independence and ‘I’ve got this’ mindsets, it can be easy to isolate ourselves, and hold people at arm’s length while we toil hard to build our castles and our dreams.
It is really ironic how in such a connected world, full of apps, bleeps, instant messages, and constant streams of on-demand information, images and sounds, it’s so easy to end up in narrow bubbles of ‘me’, and for community and friendship to get pushed to the side, as we get drawn in by the lie that we don’t have time for friends and hanging out any more.
The only problem is, when we are stuck in our own heads all the time, our perspective can get squashed and skewed, making us see things as more negative, and obstacles as bigger than they really are.
Something as simple as talking and being heard can blow away so many cobwebs. All it takes is a phone call, or inviting your girls or your bros round for pizza, or to grab a coffee.
Talking things out and receiving the input and hearing the fresh perspectives and ideas of others can cause you to see things differently, or to make you realise that the thing you had thought insurmountable was not really much of an issue in the first place…
