'We won’t give up until everyone experiencing a mental health problem gets support and respect.'
Mind works tirelessly to bring lots of advice and helpful information to people struggling with their mental health, and advocates for them, campaigning with local and national government. They also raise awareness among the public about issues that may not always be freely spoken about.
In The Red focuses on the link between financial struggles, poverty and mental health. Our Lives, Our Choices is lobbying for a drastic improvement and overhaul in the way the health and social care sectors are run. Local branches of Mind across England and Wales support over 513,000 people nationwide. The services they provide include supported housing, crisis helplines, drop-in centres, employment and training initiatives, as well as counselling and befriending. Mind relies solely on the generous donations of the public. For example, they have recently joined forces with the English Football League (EFL) in order to spread awareness of the benefits of football and sport to mental health and general wellbeing. From the beginning of the coming football season, Mind will become EFL’s official charity partner to support and improve the way sport and society in general deals with and approaches mental health issues. Fearne Cotton is an active and passionate ambassador of Mind. Recently, she joined the gang at Mind in the City in London to take part in Spoken Minds, which is a project that uses spoken word and performance poetry to help people express themselves, improving their sense of wellbeing, and creating a sense of belonging and community. People who attend the group are increasing their confidence, communication skills, and using their innate creativity. Fearne honestly told her own story of experiencing depression. She seeks to break stigma, and champion others to share their own stories.
