'Just because a man lacks the use of his eyes doesn’t mean he lacks vision.'
Stevie Wonder’s birth name is Stevland Hardaway Judkins. Originally from Detroit, Michigan, he is an iconic, multitalented musician who has produced across different genres including soul, pop, funk, jazz, R’n’B, and more
'You can’t base your life on other people’s expectations'.
He is a prolific singer, songwriter, record producer, and can play many different musical instruments. From childhood, he has been a musical genius, and is considered to be one of the most successful musicians of the latter part of the 20th century. At the age of 11, he signed Motown’s Tamla label, and is still producing music into the 2010s.
He has recorded more than 30 top 10 hits in the USA, and has taken home 25 Grammy Awards.
'We all have ability. The difference is how we use it'.
Despite his blindness, he has lived without limitation, making the most of every opportunity that came into his path. Because of his lack of sight, he would have had to develop a very refined sense of hearing, which would have been a great advantage in his musical career. Combining talent, passion and hard work, he used his weakness as a springboard for greatness!
This incredible charity, Royal National Institute of Blind People is doing great things to support those with impaired sight. Check out this website to learn more about the issues that affect the visually impaired, and what the RNIB are doing to help. http://www.rnib.org.uk
