Stay Safe is a program run by Mancunian Way, a local charity geared towards social change in troubled inner city neighbourhoods. It offers resources for young people, and vital information on key issues that they face, equipping them to be safer. Stay Safe is one of Mancunian Way’s initiatives that aims to tackle youth-based antisocial behaviour at its source, lower the fear of crime, and counteract the bad reputation that surrounds young people. It is now partially funded by the Big Lottery. It operates directly on the streets of some of the most deprived neighbourhoods and estates of Greater Manchester, aiming to build trust with those in the greatest need. The youth workers get to know young people slowly, building their trust over time, and offer them guidance, educating them through honest and informal styles of discussion, signposting them to the resources and opportunities they need, and that are there for them to access. This valuable service offers teenagers and young adults the chance to gain confidence, and to make informed and positive choices that will contribute to their future success in every area of their lives.
