Media City’s Contribution To Manchester’s Growth Since 2011, Media City has really put Salford and Manchester on the map! It has given the city a uniquely creative and innovative edge, with the arrival of iconic British media giants, ITV, Channel 4 and the BBC among others. It is now the second largest creative and digital cluster in Europe, and is working to have the perfect mix of academic players within our community. Already, the University of Salford, Salford City College and Oasis Academy and more have partnered with Media City and the relationship between this complex and these institutions as well as others is extremely beneficial as they have paved the way for new employment and enterprises to be formed, such as apprenticeships in the creative and media industries, as well as work experience and start-up programmes. One of these initiatives is Future Skills, which is operated from Salford City college’s new 6 million pound centre, which offers a variety of courses from creative music to hospitality management, aimed at those who want to get a foot in the door to their chosen industry. It is supported by Damson, a new restaurant in Media City, which allows catering students the chance to progress in a real, high standard working environment as part of an advanced apprenticeship scheme.
Media City’s partnership with Oasis Academy gives high school students access to brand new, state-of-the-art facilities that support learning in science, tech, sports, the arts and more. The motivation and ambition this is giving local young people in every stage of education is fantastic, as it is providing real and tangible opportunities to progress.
