This week’s Inspiring Story will blow your socks off. At the tender age of 10, Maddie Bradshaw accidentally created a goldmine, all as part of her having fun! If you take anything away from reading her amazing story, let it be a resolve to just have fun with what you love doing, and see where the possibilities take you. Don’t be afraid to fail, and just do it because you want to! Maddie is only 16 years old, and is the founder and director of M3 Girl Designs, a jewellery company that sells over 60,000 items a month in over 6,000 US retailers including Amazon. All of this started purely by accident when she was 10 years old. Maddie wanted to get creative with her school locker, and could not find anything pretty and original to decorate it with. It just so happens that her uncle had an old Coke machine he wasn’t using, so he gave her 50 bottle caps that were just lying around gathering dust. Maddie had the idea to decorate them and put magnets on them to stick on her locker door. She named them Snap Caps, and they became a great way to encourage and celebrate girls’ unique personalities because of the many different themes and colours they came in. After taking 50 to her local toy store, they all sold out in under 2 hours! Maddie attributes her success to her sole focus on having fun, and not worrying about failing. She made her first $1million by the age of 13. Maddie has also written and published a book called You Can Start a Business Too, following her being contacted by hundreds of young girls who were inspired by her work, wishing to start their own ventures. She loves reaching out and helping others achieve their dreams, as she is aware that not everyone has access to the start-up resources she had herself. A significant piece of advice she gives to young entrepreneurs is to follow their passion first and foremost.
“If you come up with an idea and you love it, chances are, other people will too”. |
