American singer, song writer, dancer and actor, Beyonce Knowles - Carter is best known for her leading role in world-famous R ‘n’ B girl band Destiny’s Child which, managed by her father, became one of the best selling girl groups in history. After the band’s break-up in 2006, Beyonce launched her solo career, releasing her album B’Day. As a solo artist, Beyonce has sold in the region of 100 million records, and 60 million more as part of the band. She is officially one of the best selling artists in history. Born in Houston Texas, Beyonce took part in dance classes at school. Her talent for singing was uncovered when she finished a song her dance teacher was humming, and was able to effortlessly reach all the highest notes. She won a school talent show at the age of seven. In 2005, she broke into the fashion industry, helped along by her great fame and popularity. Alongside her mother, she launched House of Derean, a women’s fashion line inspired by three generations of her family. Dereon was her grandmother’s maiden name. In 2014, she signed a deal with Topshop to launch a new brand of active and sportswear. When I’m not feeling my best, I ask myself ‘what are you going to do about it?’ I use the negativity to fuel the transformation into a better me. What’s more, Beyonce has been and is still involved with charity work and philanthropy. Following Hurricane Katrina in 2005, she founded the Survivor Foundation, in order to help disaster victims into secure accommodation. Over the years, she has funded and contributed to many more worthy causes.
