This is the man behind your weekly shop!
Dave Lewis became the CEO of supermarket giant Tesco back in 2014, having worked for Unilever for 27 years, having worked his way up from a graduate position to President of Personal Care. In the early 90s, he started the Dove personal care brand, and 10 years later launched the Dove Real Beauty campaign, which used ordinary women in its advertisements, rather than models. Tesco is the largest seller of Unilever and Dove products in the UK, so Lewis’s experience in various UK and international roles in Unilever was an asset to his new leadership position. A keen runner, having completed the London Marathon, Dave is passionate about increasing people’s health and wellbeing. It’s good to have a balance of celebrating what you have achieved up until now, and thinking about what you want in the future and how to get there.
If you focus too much on how far you have come, you can get complacent, and forget that you still have a lot of growing to do. But if you focus too much on what you want in future, you might get discouraged at how far you have left to go. Both perspectives kept in balance will keep you on the right track. Richard Branson is the Founder of the Virgin Group, and has been in business for 50 years, so he definitely knows his way around.
In this brilliant book, he shares insider tips and lessons on everything from being a manager to managing finances. It is a unique insight into Branson’s life, the way he thinks, and how he embraces challenge with everything he’s got. Dan Makin is the founder of Dirt Factory, which is the UK’s first indoor Mountain Bike and BMX centre. From their time with Curricula and Co’s Entrepreneur Academy, they have gotten Piers Linney on board as an investor, and after many months of looking around, they have finally secured their very own building! Dirt Factory offers fun and rewarding riding experiences at our own indoor bike park, in the community and at events. Learn more about what we do and get on board as a supporter. http://dirtfactory.org/ Next week, I will be interviewing Dan about how far Dirt Factory has come in the last year, since our last feature on this fantastic sporting facility, and learning more about Dirt Factory, what they do, and where they hope to expand in the future.
